Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much are the lessons?

A: $120 per month, 4 half-hour lessons, 1 every week

Q: I love music, but I'm slow at catching on. Teachers get impatient with me!

A: Relax. It's normal to make mistakes and feel awkward. A new skill takes time. Everyone goes at their own pace. Since it’s private lessons, you don’t have to worry about being ahead or behind anyone. This is your time to learn.

Q: Why would I need lessons if there’s so much free information online?

A: Online resources and books are great, but they can’t replace hands-on teaching and personal guidance. Paying for lessons shows commitment and motivates you to put in the effort. (First lesson is free!)

Q: I live far away from Portland or Gresham. Will you travel or have other options?

A: I also teach online. Zoom is the preferred platform. When Covid hit, I took the business online, and we made it work. In person lessons are better, because we can give more attention to details like finger positioning. But Zoom is a great option if you’re traveling or can’t make it for some reason or if you live in a different part of the world!

Q: How long will it take until I get good?

A: Most students are playing songs in a couple of months, but it varies. Lessons are tailored to your goals, interests, and personality. Your progress depends on your effort and practice.

Q: What if I’m unsure about committing to lessons?

A:
You can try the first lesson free. This lets you see if the teaching style works for you without any pressure.

Q: What styles of music can I learn?

A:
Lessons are customized to your interests. Acoustic, electric, and songwriting are all covered. I often use premade material, but we can also make time to cover your own creative ideas, riffs, or songs you enjoy.

Q: How are lessons structured?

A: Lessons focus on fundamentals first, then build creativity, technique, and musicality. You’ll also learn self-teaching skills so you can continue improving outside of class.

Q: How do lessons help me beyond music?

A: You’ll develop discipline, focus, creativity, and self-motivation—skills that carry over into school, work, and life in general.
